  • My pool is green; what do I do?
    The first thing you’re going to want to do is bring in a sample of your water to our friendly water testing staff so that we can tell you exactly how much of each chemical that you need. Chlorine is the only thing that will kill visible algae, and sometimes the chlorine needs to be used in conjunction with algaecide. It isimportant to bring us a water sample before adding any chemicals – too much of the wrong chemical can make the issue worse.
  • Why is my pool cloudy?
    A cloudy pool means that the balance of your water chemicals is off. Normally this can be helped by adjusting the PH or the alkalinity, but the best thing you can do is to bring in a sample of your water for us to test and tell you exactly what you need.
  • How much does it cost to test water at Aloha?
    Our water testing is a complimentary service for our customers! Just bring in a sample of your water (a mason jar or bottle is more than enough!) and we’ll run extensive diagnostic testing to tell you exactly what you need to clear your pool water up in no time. We test both chlorine and salt systems. If you choose to buy chemicals from us, we will collect exactly what you need from the store for you – making your experience as stress free as possible! *If you are not an Aloha customer, you may be subject to a $10 water testing fee if you do not buy chemicals with us or have not bought your pool or other accessories from us.
  • How often should I get my water tested?
    Once every two weeks to once every month is recommended for water testing.
  • Why should I purchase my pool chemicals from Aloha instead of Walmart or Sam's
    Aloha chemicals have a much higher percentage of active ingredients than our competitors’ chemicals do, therefore making our chemicals much more effective. When we water test, we make chemical suggestions based on our chemicals, and often these instructions do not translate to other companies’ products. When you water test and buy chemicals at Aloha, you can be confident that your water will achieve the perfect balance first try.
  • How often should I add shock to my pool?
    If you have a chlorine pool, add shock to your pool once a week. In the high heat of the summer, add shock to your pool twice a week.
  • What do pool openings include?
    A pool opening from Aloha gets your pool up and running for the season. When we open your pool for the summer, we de-winterize it (remove the cover and all plugs), get the pump up and running, and add shock and algaecide to your pool for you. Once we open your pool for you, we recommend you bring in a sample of your water so we can tell you exactly what chemicals you need to make it swim-ready. Pool cleaning is NOT included in our pool opening services.
  • What do pool closings include?
    Essentially, we are doing the exact opposite of a pool opening. We winterize your pool by blowing out the lines to insure no water is left that could freeze during the winter, we put in all pool plugs, we plug the skimmer, winterize the filter and pump, and we install the pool cover for winter.
  • What do I need to do before you come and clean my pool?
    Before we are able to clean your pool for you, the water must be clear to be able to see the bottom. The water cannot be green or cloudy because we have to be able to see the bottom so we can vacuum and clean properly.
  • How long does it take to build an inground pool?
    A pool can be built in as little as a week, but it is best to allow two to four weeks for basic pools and longer for custom pools.
  • How long does it take to install an above ground pool?
    An above ground pool takes two 1/2 days and one full day to completely install, although it is best to allow 10 days from start to finish in case of scheduling and extra work on site preparation.
  • How full of water should I keep my pool?
    It is best to keep your pool 1/3 to 1/2 of the way up the opening of the pool skimmer. This will keep your pool skimmer working effectively. If your water is too high, the debris in your pool will not go into the skimmer. If the water is too low, air gets sucked into the system which eventually can burn up your pool filter pump motor.
  • Can I use an extension cord to run my pool pump?
    No, you will need a 120v receptacle professionally installed within 2' of your pool pump with the pump plugged directly into it.
  • How long should I run my Polaris cleaner in order to clean the whole pool?
    Three hours should be enough time for your Polaris cleaner to clean your entire pool.
  • Do I have to pay for a pool estimate?
    No, we will provide a complimentary in-home estimate by one of our expert pool consultants to help you envision what an Aloha pool would look like in your backyard! For those wanting to see a computerized version of their custom pool, we do offer a further consultation with pool software professional for an additional charge.
  • Do you have your pools inspected?
    Yes! We have city inspections before pools are completed as well after the pool is completed.
  • What kind of plumbing do you use?
    We use “Schedule 40” PVC pipes.
  • Do you work on pool motors?
    When a pool motor goes bad, we recommend getting a new pump so that you will have a full one year warranty on it. For pool motor fixes, we recommend Electric Motor Rebuilders in Jackson. Their phone number is 731-427-9691.
  • How often should I change the sand in my filter?
    For a chlorine pool, it’s best to change filter sand every three to five years. For a Baquacil pool, filter sand needs to be changed yearly. The water in my salt system pool isn’t right. What do I do? The first thing you want to do is bring in a sample of your water to Aloha for extensive water testing. The test strips that you are able to buy at Walmart and other convenience stores are not a good indicator of the chemistry of your water. If our water testers are unable to determine your problem, we will send an expert to your home to diagnosis the issue.
  • How often should I backwash my sand filter?
    You should backwash your sand filter at least once a week, as well as every time you run a manual vacuum over the pool. You should also backwash your filter when you notice the filter’s pressure gauge is ten pounds over its normal operating pressure.
  • What do I do if the flow in my pool has decreased?
    A quick way to find out if there is a simple fix to your problem is to put your filter valve on recirculate. If you do this and the flow greatly increases, your problem is that you need to change your filter sand. If this does not fix the problem, you likely need a new filter – which we can help you with here at Aloha!
